Different places to get Married

Have you ever thought of having your marriage ceremony and celebration in a coffee shop. This is a service offered by Dave at Heathers Coffee Shop, Rowntrees Garden Centre, Congresbury, N. Somerset (01934 835555). Dave has room for around 120 guests inside and 85 outside with full catering. Please contact Dave to discuss arrangements at the location and Blue Sky Celebrants to discuss the ceremony itself. Also please browse these pages for more information. Wedding celebrations don’t have to be vastly expensive and niche locations, like Heathers, can add to the all-round experience.

Limiting Beliefs

Today I went to School of Rock at the Dame Gillian Lynne Theatre in the West End. It was fantastic. Right from the start it was clear to see that the main character, Dewey Finn, was a dreamer. He dreamt of being a Rock Star. Trouble was no one believed him. Only himself. His energy was absolutely amazing as he followed his dream and made it in the end. Those of you who know the story will remember that he takes a whole class of posh kids with him. Kids whose lives were limited by the expectations put on them by their parents and school. But the cellist became a rock bass guitarist. The pianist went on keyboards and the show began. Numbers like “You’re in the Band” and “Stick it to the man” brought the house down. The message was about not being limited by stuff. Be free and follow your dreams. With a bit of hard work, energy and enthusiasm they will probably be realised. BTW it’s a great show to read an in-depth review visit http://www.TheRosieWord.com. Thanks for reading. TheRosieWord

Legal Marriage in the UK

We are often asked if an Independent Celebrant can register a legal marriage in the UK. The short answer is no. However, that is not the end of the story so please do read on for more information.

For full details of how to get legally married in the UK please follow the following link Marriage in the UK. To become legally married in the UK a couple must say some prescribed words (about 50 in total) in front of a Registrar with two witnesses who are over the age of 18 years. The rest is up to you….

As Independent Celebrants we love to celebrate 🎉, it’s in the blood! We want to help you celebrate your commitment. Although the “legal bit” must be done by a Registrar, we can include the exchange of vows, exchange of rings and any other content you, as a couple, would like. Remember we design bespoke ceremonies of celebration with you, for you. The celebration can take on whatever theme you like and will be as unique as your relationship is. Remember, this is all about you as a couple who are taking the courageous step in announcing your commitment to each other to the world.

Baby Naming Ceremonies

You will have noticed an addition to the ceremonies offered by Blue Sky Celebrants. This is an addition to the list which is certainly not exhaustive! We can put together a Celebration Ceremony for anything really. All you need to do is ask by visiting our  Contact Page and getting in touch.

Baby naming or Baby Welcoming Ceremonies are not a new thing. Known as Christenings or Baptisms these ceremonies used to take place in church or other religious institution. However, more and more these days people are holding these welcoming ceremonies at home or in a garden, field or hotel space.

As Independent Celebrants we will help you plan and deliver the Ceremony within the celebration or party you have in mind. As always the Ceremony will be created with you and will be unique to you and your family and friends. Please do look at our Baby Naming Page for more information.

You will see mentioned the G-Parents. Traditionally a baby boy will have two Godfathers and a Godmother and a baby girl will have two Godmothers and one Godfather. But it does not have to stop there! You can choose to have as many as you like and you can call them whatever you like. Those who may want a degree of religion or spirituality within the ceremony may stick with the name Godparents but they could be called Guide-parents or Guardian-parents or anything else you choose.

Also these Welcoming Ceremonies could be used to celebrate an Adoption or long term Fostering. The subject of the Ceremony need not be a baby but could be a child, teenager or any addition to the family. These Ceremonies can be used to celebrate the beginning of a modern day “blended family” although a Wedding Celebration may be more appropriate.

We could include in the Ceremony, joyful and interactive symbols such as Unity Candles, Sand Ceremonies or Hand Fasting.

The choice is yours so that the important celebration or thank you for something new and exciting can be celebrated in the best possible way.

A Message to Funeral Directors

If you had the opportunity to read my CV you would see that I have been officiating at funerals for the past 21 years and have great experience of dealing with families and individuals in grief. I have also worked in the funeral industry as a funeral arranger, assistant, driver and bearer. My career in the Police Service gave me experience of dealing with HM Coroner’s Office, sudden and unexpected death, the deaths of children and young people and contact with families in extremely traumatic situations.

I know that, as funeral arrangers you need to have access to celebrants who will be available to take on funerals in a consistent and regular way. I know you would rather speak to a person than a voicemail system! The majority of my years as a funeral celebrant have been as a result of my church roles and connections. Having retired from those roles I would like to offer my services to you as an Independent Celebrant, happy to arrange life celebrations and services from a religious perspective or a non-religious one. I know that many families would like to have a mixture of both in their service. Clearly, I cannot officiate at a church funeral where you will need to contact the minister in charge.

Through my experience of working in busy urban and suburban cities and towns the majority of funerals I’ve been involved with have been at the local Crematorium and occasionally Cemetery burials. I therefore know the importance of designing a service or celebration that will fit into the time allotted without the unnecessary stress on other families and funeral directors caused by going over time.

It is vitally important that the service or celebration reflects the wishes of the family and is of a very high quality. This is important pastorally for the families involved, also for your business as the service you offer to clients will be of an equally high standard. Excellent Customer Service from me is vital for both the family and you as my clients.

I hope you feel that you can use me to support your business in this way. I believe I charge very reasonable fees which I am happy to discuss on an individual basis.

Thank you for taking the time to read this note.
